Alexander married Margaret BARCLAY, daughter of Colonel Harrie BARCLAY 2nd of Johnston and Unknown, 22 February 1671(contract).1 (Margaret BARCLAY was born about 1650.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Alexander, generally known as Alexander Arbuthnott of Knox. He was born in 1654, and married, first, apparently without issue, Margaret Barclay, daughter of Colonel Harrie Barclay of Knox (contract dated 22 February 1671). They had a charter under the Great Seal, dated 22 December 1671, of the lands of Over and Nether Knoxes of Benholm."

Alexander next married Jean SCOTT 'of Rossie'. (Jean SCOTT 'of Rossie' was born about 1655.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Alexander, generally known as Alexander Arbuthnott of Knox .... married, secondly, Jean Scott, daughter of Patrick Scott of Rossie. He was concerned in certain very acrimonious family disputes, notably with reference to the guardianship of the fourth Viscount. He sat in Parliament for Kincardineshire from 1689 to 1702."
