When Henry William Richards was born in 1887 his mother, Margaret, was the informant of his birth before the registrar, William Blair, at Edinburgh on 13 September 1887.


The 1891 census for Edinburgh Canongate recorded Harry Richards living at 11 West Adam Street with his mother and brother, Alfred. Harry was recorded as 3 years old and had been born in Edinburgh.

In Henry's death certificate of 1937, the record states he was a mail van driver, married to Isabella Eddington or Ritchie. His age at death was 50 years, and his father was deceased. 2 3 4

T.R.R. Todd MB certified the cause of death.

Wm. Ritchie, Henry's stepson, who had been present where his stepfather died, gave notice of his death before the registrar at Edinburgh on10 November 1937.


Henry married Isabella EDDINGTON, daughter of John EDDINGTON Millwright and Elizabeth GREENFIELD, on 28 July 1919 in Whitchester Cottage Hospital, Duns, Berwickshire, Scotland.1 (Isabella EDDINGTON was born in 1891 1 and died in 1974 in Canongate and Portobello, Midlothian, Scotland 5.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland. The minister was Andrew E. Wallace and the witnesses were Alfred R. Richards and Rosa Skirving Jameson.

H. W. Richards, the bridegroom, was 31 years old and resided at East End, Chirnside. He was a single man and worked as a postman. His father was deceased.

The bride was Isabella E. Ritchie, a widow of 27 years of age. She lived at 48 Broughton Road, Edinburgh.

The marriage was registered at Duns on 28 July 1919, the registrar being Thomas More. 1
