No birth or baptism record for Rebecca Adams has as yet been uncovered. Her age and place of birth are deduced from Scottish census or vital documents.

It is very likely that Rebecca Adams came to Scotland from Ireland between 1851 and 1858 when she married, possibly after the death of her mother. The first document that has been found for her is her marriage certificate of 1858. No 1851 census entry has been found.

Rebecca Adams married Hugh Curran in 1858 in Westruther Berwickshire.

Rebecca Curran, a married woman, was aged 21 years when recorded by the 1861 census for Borthwick Midlothian. She lived with her family at Esperstone Lime Works where her husband worked as a lime carter. She had two small children: Hugh, aged 3 years, and Sarah, aged 1 year. Rebecca was recorded as having been born in Ireland.

The 1871 census for Liberton Midlothian recorded Rebecca Curran living with her husband and family at Old Dalkeith Road, Little France. Her age was recorded as 34 years and her birthplace as Ireland. She had five children, aged from 4 years to 13 years.

'Rabecca Cairns' was recorded by the 1881 census as a ploughman's wife. She was aged 42 years and had been born in Ireland. She and her husband, and their seven of a family, lived in Cairnie Hinds House, Inveresk, Edinburgh.

'Rebeca Cairns' was recorded as 52 years old by the 1891 census for Glencorse in Midlothian. She lived at Cuiken Cottages with her husband and their son William. Her birthplace was recorded as having been County Armagh, Ireland. She was employed as a farm servant.

In 1901 Rebecca Cairns was living in Inveresk, Midlothian, at Smeaton Shaw, according to the census taken that year. Her age was recorded as 62 years and her birthplace as Ireland. She lived with her husband and their 20 year old son.

Rebecca Cairns died in 1913. In her death certificate she was recorded as being the widow of Hugh Cairns, farm servant. Her recorded age at death was 75 years. Both of her parents were noted as deceased, although no name was provided for her mother. ^{3 4 5 7 10}

Rebecca married Hugh CURRAN OR CAIRNS (DNA Linked), son of Michael CURRAN and Margaret ROUKE, on 12 March 1858 in Jordanlaw, Westruther, Berwickshire, Scotland. (Hugh CURRAN OR CAIRNS (DNA Linked) was born in 1838 in County Leitrim, Ireland ^{4 5} and died 10 January 1904 at 10.15 am in 5 Courtland Place, Lothian Street, Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, Scotland.). The cause of his death was bronchitis over 5 weeks and catarrhal pneumonia over 21 days.³

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland. The minister of Westruther, Henry Taylor, presided. The witnesses were James Brydon and Isable Anderson.

Hugh Curran, who made his X mark, was an unmarried man of 19 years of age. Resident at Muircleugh in the parish of Lauder, he worked as a labourer. His parents were deceased.

Rebecca Adams was also 19 years old and unmarried. She was resident in Jordanlaw in the parish of Westruther. She was a domestic servant by occupation, and made her X mark. Her mother, Sarah, was recorded as deceased.

The marriage was registered in Westruther on 12 March 1858, the registrar being James Wilson.
