User ID: C341. James married Margaret OGILVY, daughter of Sir Alexander OGILVY of Auchterhouse and Unknown, on 27 March 1459.1 (Margaret OGILVY was born about 1443.) Marriage Notes: "Before 1 March 1466 he married Margaret, the only child of Sir Alexander Ogilvie of Auchterhouse, and got with her the Castle of Banff, the baronies of Strathalvah and Down in the county of Banff, and various other lands in the counties of Banff, Aberdeen, and Forfar....The Earl, apparently on his marriage, became Sheriff of Forfar, but he resigned the office in 1466.... .... By his wife he had only one son, Alexander, who succeeded him." (pages 266 and 267) James had a relationship with Margaret MURRAY. (Margaret MURRAY was born about 1455.) Marriage Notes: "He (James Stewart) had also several natural children by Margaret Murray, widow of William Murray. Some of these were legitimated by royal charter, and one of them, James, legitimated in 1488-89, was ancestor of the Earls of Traquair. Another, Agnes, was married to Adam, Earl of Bothwell."
