John married Margaret CLARK, daughter of Thomas CLARK and Elizabeth WILSON, on 5 August 1864 in Entry near cottage, Old Monkland parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ (Margaret CLARK was born on 6 November 1845 in Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland ¹ and died on 20 October 1923 in Lithgow, New South Wales, Australia.)

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. William Jackson, Minister of the Free West Church Airdrie, married the couple. The witnesses were Claud Morrison and Rebecca Mills.
