Another name for James was GARSHORE, James.1 3 General Notes: "When he (Patrick Gartshore) died without issue the succession devolved on his immediate younger brother James Gartshore, D.D., Parson of Cardross. The doctor possessed the estate for some years, but as it was burdened with a liferent to his brothers widow, and encumbered with debt contracted by his brother while in the army; he, for payment of these obligations, assigned the property to his youngest brother, Alexander Gartshore, who was bred a merchant." Noted events in his life were: 1. Admission: to charge of, 1666, parish of Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland. 7 James married MAXWELL, daughter of Reverend Mr William MAXWELL Minister of Minnigaff (or Monigaff) and Unknown, about 1670. (MAXWELL was born about 1650.) Marriage Notes: As well as two sons, this couple have two daughters assigned to them by secondary sources: James next married Jean THOMSON on 21 January 1690 in Edinburgh parish, Edinburgh, Scotland.1 2 (Jean THOMSON was born about 1650.) James next married Jean LOCKHART on 6 August 1691 in Edinburgh parish, Edinburgh, Scotland.1 (Jean LOCKHART was born about 1645.) Marriage Notes: Another record for this couple dated 2 August 1691 in Lanark Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland exists for the marriage, probably banns of marriage, of James Garshore and Jean Lockhart. 1 James next married Jennet CHIEN on 3 July 1696 in Edinburgh, Scotland.3 (Jennet CHIEN was born about 1640.) Marriage Notes: Janet Cheyne was the third wife, and widow, of Walter McGill MA when she married James Gartshore who was Incumbent of Tranent. 9 |
