Thomas Spence was a single man of 30 years, living at No 4 East Sauch (?) James Street, Haddington. He was a coach painter. His father, a postman, was deceased.

Catherine Bain was a 26 year old woman resident at Lennoxlove Haddington. She was single and worked as a domestic servant. Her father, also a postman, was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Haddington on 4 January 1889. 1
