  General Notes:

In 1881 the census for St Giles in Edinburgh recorded Elspet M. D. Hardie
living at 7 Hay Street with her husband and six children. Her birthplace was noted as Methlic, Aberdeenshire, and her age as 37 years.

The 1901 census for Edinburgh St Leonard's recorded Elsie Hardie living with her husband and three children at 23 Lutton Place, Newington. Her age was noted as 58 years, and her birthplace as Methlic, Aberdeenshire.

Elsie Davidson was widowed in 1916.

When Elsie Milne Hardie died in 1928 in a nursing home, her death certificate recorded her as the 'widow of James Hardie Musical Instrument Maker'. Her age was recorded there as 85 years. Her usual address was noted as 23 Parsons Green Terrace, Edinburgh. Both of her parents were deceased.

  Medical Notes:

James Scott MD certified the cause of death.

Her son in law, William Burness, of 1 Duncan Street, Edinburgh, gave notice of Elsie's death before the registrar at Edinburgh, G K Manson, on 28 August 1928. 3


Elspet married James HARDIE Violin Maker, son of William HARDIE Farmer, and Fiddler and Mary STRACHEN, on 23 May 1862 in Methlick parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 (James HARDIE Violin Maker was born on 1 January 1834 in Ellon parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 5 6 and died 15 February 1916 at 7.40 pm in 88 Nicolson Street, Edinburgh, Scotland.). The cause of his death was senile dementia.3
