  General Notes:

John Tweedlie was named first in a household recorded by the 1841 census located at Newtown (Stewart) in Wigtownshire, Scotland. In the household lived eight other people of the same surname: what would seem to be his wife Jannet, and their seven children ranging in age from 18 years to four years. He was by trade a joiner. He and and his wife Jannet were placed in the 45-49 years age group. Everyone in the household had been born in Scotland, but not in the county of residence, that is not in Wigtownshire.

In 1851 the census for Liverpool, England recorded William Tweedle as head of a household living at 881/2 Burlington Street. the household consisted of himself, his brother John, both widowers, William's four sons, his nephew Andrew, his son in law John Johnstone and his daughter in law Mary Johnstone. John Tweedle was recorded as 47 years old and born in Scotland. He was a sawyer.

Note: 47 years seems very low given evidence from other sources; 57 years would have been closer.

The 1861 census for Castle Douglas recorded John Tweedie living in Market Hill as a boarder in the household of Christine Martin, a washerwoman. He was recorded as 66 years old, was a sawyer by occupation and had been born in Castle Douglas.

When John Tweedie [sic] died in 1863, his death certifiectae recorded him as a sawyer and widower of Janet Carter. His age at death was recorded as 72 years. Both of his parents were deceased.

John Tweedie was recorded as a sawyer in the 1888 death certificate of his son Andrew. 4 7 8 9

  Medical Notes:

James Laidlaw, surgeon, certified the cause of death.

Wm Tweedie, son of the deceased man, who was present where his death occurred, gave notice of his father's death on 23 November 1863 before the registrar at Rhonehouse. 5

John married Janet CARTER on 12 November 1819 in Kells Parish, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.1 2 (Janet CARTER was born about 1793 in Scotland, but not Wigtownshire and died before 31 March 1851.)
