   Cause of his death was apoplexy/heart disease, valvular, over six months.4

   Other names for William were TWEEDIE, Wm 12 and TWEEDLIE, William Sawyer.10

  General Notes:

William was recorded by the 1841 census living in Newtown, Wigtownshire, with his parents and siblings. He was 18 years old and was an apprentice joiner. He had been born in Scotland but not in Wigtownshire.

The 1855 birth certificate of William's son, James Tweedie, recorded some details about the child's parents. William Tweedie, father of the child, was recorded as a sawyer by occupation, aged 32 years, who was born in Kells parish, New Galloway. William and his wife, Elizabeth McNaught had married in Kelton Manse in 1848 and had four sons living.

The 1861 census for Castle Douglas in Kelton parish Kirkcudbright Scotland recorded William Tweedie [sic], a sawyer, living in Cotton Street with his wife Elizabeth and their four children between 1 year and 11 years. he was recorded as having been born in Kells parish Kirkcudbright and was 37 years old.

Wm Tweedie, who was present where the death occurred, gave notice of his father's death on 23 November 1863 before the registrar at Rhonehouse.

William continued to live in Cotton Street Castle Douglas throughout this period.

William Tweedie [sic] "widower of Elizabeth McNaught" died at the recorded age of 74 years in Castle Douglas, Scotland in 1897. No parental names were recorded in his death certificate. James Tweedie, William Tweedie's son who had been present where the death occurred, gave notice of his father's death before the registrar at Castle Douglas.

When his son James died in 1918 William was recorded in the death certificate as a "sawyer (deceased)". 1 4 5 6 9 10 11 12 13


William married Elizabeth McNAUGHT in 1848 in Kelton Manse, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.1 (Elizabeth McNAUGHT was born about 1823 in Kelton Parish, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland 1 11 and died before 17 February 1897 2.)


  Marriage Notes:

According to the 1855 birth certificate of their son, James Tweedie, William Tweedie and his wife, Elizabeth McNaught had married in Kelton Manse in 1848. 1
