In the Church Baptism Record transcribed (above) and made available by the Irish Family History Foundation, Daniel Rorke was recorded as having been baptised on 22 January 1844 in the RC parish of Dungannon in County Tyrone Ireland. His parents were Francis Rorke and Margaret Campbell. No address was noted. The sponsor was recorded simply as 'Mary'.
In the 1861 census Daniel was recorded as just 17 years old, but already earning as a coal miner. He lived with his family in the Omoa Rows, Cleland and was unmarried.
Daniel was living at number 50 'Houses south of Edinburgh Rd', Clarkston, New Monkland, according to 1871 census. He was unmarried, aged 27 years, and was working as a coal miner. The enumerator who recorded the O' Rourke family in the 1871 census was William Brown. They lived in district 13 which he listeded as being: "bounded on the west by the fence midway between Drumgelloch and Clarkston Manse; on the south by the Edinburgh and Glasgow Road; on the east by the Colliertree Road and on the north by the Drumbathie Road."
In 1881 Daniel and Mary O'Rourke were living at 20 Carscallan Row, Hamilton, Lanarkshire. With them resided three sons aged from 9 months to 6 years, two boarders, and Mary's brother Andrew. The two boarders were named William Donaly aged 35 years and Francis Divens aged 26 years. Both were coal miners and both were unmarried. William was Irish born and Francis had been born in Rutherglen, Scotland. Daniel, head of the household, was a married man of 31 years of age who worked as a miner and had been born in Ireland.
The 1891 census placed Daniel at 86 Logan's Rows in north Motherwell. He was living there, working as a coal miner, with his wife, their seven children, and a boarder. The boarder was James, aged 47 years, also a coal miner but unmarried - his own brother. Daniel's age was recorded as 40 years.
When Daniel O'Rorke died in 1896 his death certificate recorded him as a coal miner, married to Mary Docherty, and aged 44 years. (He was probably in his early 50s.) His parents were deceased.
In 1910 Daniel's son John married, and in his marriage certificate his father Daniel O'Rourke was recorded as a "Coalminer Deceased". 2 3 4 5 7
