  General Notes:

The 1881 census for Hamilton recorded Mary, her husband and family, her brother, Andrew, and two boarders living at 20 Carscallan Row. Mary was a married woman, aged 24 years, who had been born in Clarkston (Airdrie). Her brother, Andrew, was recorded as 21 years of age and, like his sister, Mary, had been born in Clarkston in New Monkland parish. He was unmarried.

The 1891 census for Dalziel, 86 Logans Rows, north Motherwell, recorded Daniel O'Rourke's wife as Mary. Her age was given as 36 years, making her 18 years old when she married, and 19 years old when eldest child in census was born. Since her husband was under-aged in the 1891 entry, it is possible Mary's age was slightly misreported too. She had seven children in the census list, mainly boys, and from their birthplaces, it seems that the family had moved from the New Monkland parish area to Motherwell, Hamilton, and back to Motherwell again. James O'Rourke, her unmarried brother-in-law, also lived with them.

Mary Docherty, widow, who had been present where his death occurred, gave notice of her husband's death before the registrar, Robert Blackie, at Bellshill on 13 December 1896, and made her X mark. 4 5

Mary married Daniel RORKE, son of Francis ROURKE (DNA Linked) and Margaret CAMPBELL (DNA Linked), on 23 February 1873 in New Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Daniel RORKE was baptised on 22 January 1844 in Dungannon RC parish, County Tyrone, Ireland 7 and died 12 December 1896 at 5.45 am in 6 New Orbiston, Bellshill, Lanarkshire, Scotland 5.). The cause of his death was chronic nephritis and cerebral apoplexy over 6 days.
