In the Church Baptism Record transcribed (above) and made available by the Irish Family History Foundation, Eliza Rorke was recorded as having been baptized on 19 April 1835 in the RC parish of Dungannon in County Tyrone Ireland. Her parents were Frank Rorke and Mart Campbell. No address was noted. The first sponsor was recorded as 'Wilm' and the second as 'Sarah Darragh'. It is unclear if the first is Wilm Rorke, the name 'Wilm' being of the Rorke side of the document, or Wilm Darragh, the surname after Sarah possibly being applicable to both Wilm and Sarah.

The 1861 census recorded Elizabeth as 24 years of age, unmarried, and working as a 'house assistant'. She lived with her parents and grandfather, her six brothers and two sisters, and a male lodger, in the workmen's rows of Omoa Ironworks in Lanarkshire.

In 1862 Elizabeth Roark was a witness at the marriage in Cambusnethan parish of her brother John.

Elizabeth Barrett was recorded as aged 43 years by the 1881 census for New Monkland. She, her husband, and their five children lived at 17 Gardner Land. Elizabeth had been born in Ireland and was recorded as a 'miner's wife'.

By 1900, the US Census for Pennsylvania recorded Elizabeth Barrett living in Jefferson County with her husband John and son, Frank. The census recorded her birth date as 7 April 1838 and her country of birth as Ireland, the same as her parents' place of birth. She was recorded therefore as 62 years old but as far as is known, from her baptism record, she was actually three years older than that. She had had six children of whom five were living. She could read, write and speak English and was a naturalised American. 2 3 8

Eliza married John BARRETT, son of John BARETT and Margaret BERRY, on 11 June 1863 in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (John BARRETT was born on 28 May 1838 in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland 3 and died on 18 February 1923 in Sandy, Clearfield, Pennsylvania, USA 4 9.)
