DATES
There are a few errors and discrepancies in reported dates in this family's history. For example, their marriage certificate recorded their date of marriage as 11 June 1863, but in the birth certificate of their daughter Elizabeth in 1866, John Barrett, the informant, gave his marriage date as 10 June 1863. In his daughter Margaret's birth certificate the marriage was in 1864 at Wishaw, and in that of James it was 11 June 1866. John was the informant in those too. This is not so unusual. Statutory registration began in Scotland only in 1855. Many people were not used to recalling precise dates, and for some it took a bit of practice!
John married Eliza RORKE (DNA Link), daughter of Francis ROURKE (DNA Linked) and Margaret CAMPBELL (DNA Linked), on 11 June 1863 in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Eliza RORKE (DNA Link) was born on 7 April 1835 in Ireland 1 3, baptised on 19 April 1835 in Dungannon RC parish, County Tyrone, Ireland 8 and died between 2 June 1900 and 12 January 1920 3 4.)
