GIBSON, John 1

  • Born: 22 March 1865, Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotland 1

  General Notes:

John Gibson was recorded by the 1871 census living at Portland Row in Riccarton parish, Ayrshire, with his family. He was 6 years of age and had been born in Tarbolton.

In 1881 John Gibson was recorded by the census living with his family at 152 Long Row, Auchinleck, Ayrshire. He was 16 years old, unmarried, and had been born in Tarbolton. He worked as an coal miner.

In 1891 the census for 152 Common Loch, Auchinleck, in Ayrshire, recorded as one of the boarders in the household, John Gibson. John was recorded as a single man, aged 26 years and born in Tarbolton, Ayrshire. He worked as a coal miner. The probable reason for him being registered as a boarder and not a member of the family was that James McAllister, his mother Agnes Gibson's partner, was now listed as head of the household. Since John was neither the son nor, technically, the stepson, of the head of the household, the enumerator has listed him as a boarder. 2 3 4
