Jane Maxwell was just 1 year old when recorded by the 1901 census, living with her family at 51 Viewpark Street, Bellshill. She had been born in Bothwell Parish, Lanarkshire. She was the youngest child there.

The 1911 census for Burnbank Hamilton recorded Jane as 12 years old and born in Bothwell parish. She was at school. ^{1 2}
