Hector Dick Quigley's birth was registered by his father John Quigley at Wishaw on 27 March 1890. John signed the notice and gave his occupation as coalminer. The marriage of John and his wife was also noted as "1884 December 31st Coylton".

Hector Tweedie was the youngest of three sons living with John and Maggie Tweedie at Overtown Cambusnethan, as recorded by the 1891 census. Hector was one year old and had been born in Overtown. ^{1 2}
