  General Notes:

Charles Felly [sic] was recorded by the 1871 census for Lesmahagow. He was 18 years old.

When Sarah Feely was born in October 1879, it was her father, Charles Feely, a coal miner, who gave notice of her birth before the registrar, M. Hamilton, at Stonehouse on 20 October 1879, and made his X mark.

The 1881 census for Lesmahagow recorded Charles, his wife Isabella, and his daughter Sarah, living at 3 Black Bull Close. Charles was a 'Hawker of Self' (probably a hawker of delft'). He had been born in Stonehouse and was aged 26 years.

Charles had been a coal miner, according to the death certificate of his wife in 1928. 1 2


Charles married Isabella McGUCKIAN, daughter of Daniel McGUCKIAN and Isabella MUNN, on 11 May 1877 in Larkhall, Dalserf Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Isabella McGUCKIAN was born in 1858 in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1 and died 19 January 1928 at 6.20 pm in 14 Grammar School Square, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.). The cause of her death was natural causes.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Donald McKay, Roman Catholic Clergyman, officiated. The witnesses were John Casey and Thomas Keillooley.

The bridegroom, an unmarried man, Charles Feeley, of Hazelbank, was a miner by occupation and 23 years of age. He made his X mark. His father, James was deceased.

Isabella McGuckian, the bride, also made her X mark. She was a single woman who worked as a farm servant. her address was Abbey Green, and she was recorded as 18 years old.

The marriage was registered at Larkhall on 11 May 1877, James Anderson being the registrar.
