   Cause of her death was malignant disease of the womb over one and a half years.5

   Other names for Elizabeth were CARRUTH, Elizabeth 5 and GEORGE, Elisabeth.3

  General Notes:

In the 1841 census record for Riccarton parish Elisabeth was aged 9 years.

The 1851 census for Riccarton recorded Elizabeth living in Crompton Street with her parents and younger brother, Samuel. Like her mother she worked as a tambourer. She was unmarried and aged 21 years. Again like her mother she had been born in Riccarton.

Elizabeth Carruth died in 1883. Her death certificate recorded her as married to David Carruth coalminer, and as 54 years of age. Her father, Moses George, was deceased. 4 5 6

William Baxter MD certified the cause of death.

David Carruth, widower, who was present, gave notice of Elizabeth's death before the registrar, James McClure, at Riccarton on 26 March 1883. 5


Elizabeth married David CARRUTH, son of William CARRUTH and Marion FINNIE, on 13 April 1860 in Riccarton parish, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 (David CARRUTH was born on 30 August 1835 in Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland 1 7 and died after 26 March 1883 5.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place at Riccarton according to the forms of the established Church of Scotland. The minister was William Jeffrey. The witnesses were Alexander McLean and John Patterson.

David Carruth was a bachelor aged 30 years of Hurlford, Riccarton. He was a collier.

Elizabeth George, also aged 30 years and of Riccarton, was marrying for the first time too. She was a 'sower'. She made her X mark.

The marriage was registered on 13 April 1860, William Hood being the registrar. 8
