Robert's birth was notified to the registrar at Hamilton, John Rae, on the 9 June 1885 by his father, John Feely.

The 1901 census recorded Ann Feelie, a widow aged 43 years, living with her six children at 2 Young Street Hamilton, Lanarkshire. Robert was 19 years old and eldest. He worked as a coal miner.

It was Robert who notified the registrar at Hamilton when his mother died in 1928. ^{2 3 4}
