  General Notes:

John's father was a coal miner. His mother, signing her name as Annie Tweedley, was the informant of his birth before the registrar, Henry Laird, in Hamilton on 5 April 1897. The parents' marriage was recorded on the birth certificate as "1892 December 1st Hamilton".

In 1901, the census for Barony Parish, Glasgow recorded John Tweedley aged 4 years. His birthplace was Hamilton, Lanarkshire.

John Tweedley, Samuel's brother , of 28 Bertram Street Hamilton, and who was present where his brother died, gave notice of the death of Samuel Tweedley before the registrar at Hamilton on 27 May 1936.

In 1942, when his mother died and his father had already been dead for some time, it was John who notified the registrar of his mother's death. John's address at that time was recorded as 40 Hill Street, Hamilton. 2 4 5 6

John married Helen Peel JOHNSTONE, daughter of Robert JOHNSTONE and Ellen BUCHANAN, on 27 December 1918 in Masonic Hall, Burnbank, Hamilton, Scotland.1 (Helen Peel JOHNSTONE was born about 1898 in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1 7 and died in 1936 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland 8.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the Methodist Church. Thomas Dale, Methodist minister, officiated. The witnesses were Rodger Tweedley and Margaret Johnstone.

John Tweedley, of 17 Beckford Street Hamilton, was a single man of 21 years of age. He was a pithead worker.

Helen Peel Johnstone was aged 20 years and single. She was a laundry worker and lived at 8 Glenlee Street Hamilton.

The marriage was registered on 30 December 1918 at Hamilton. 1
