   Cause of his death was cerebral haemorrhage over 5 days.5

   Other names for Roger were HAMELL, Rogar,1 HAMILL, Roger,6 HAMMEL, Rodger,2 5 HAMMILL, Roger 6 and HUMELL, Rodger.7

  General Notes:

In 1892, in his daughter Annie's marriage lines, Roger Hamill, was recorded as being a foreman dyer.

In his death certificate of 1917 Rodger Hammel [sic] was recorded as "Dyer & Cleaner, Widower of 1 Mary Ritchie, 2 Jane Duncan or Hale". His usual residence was Inglis Green's Ciottages, Slateford. His recorded age at death was 72 years, and both of his parents were deceased.

In his daughter, Annie's death certificate of 1942, the same description was given. 6 8

W. Oliphant Walker M.B. C.M. certified the cause of death.

Clare Hammel, of 21 Dublin Street, daughter of the deceased who was present where he died, gave notice before the registrar at Edinburgh on 29 June 1917. 5


Roger married Mary RITCHIE on 17 February 1870 in Edinburgh parish, Edinburgh, Scotland.1 (Mary RITCHIE was born about 1845 and died between 2 December 1892 and 11 March 1902 2.)


Roger next married Jane DUNCAN, daughter of John DUNCAN and Christina BELL, on 11 March 1902 in St Cuthbert's RC Church, Slateford Road, Edinburgh, Scotland.2 (Jane DUNCAN was born on 9 March 1868 in Crathie and Braemar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 1 2 and died before 25 June 1917.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated afte publication of banns according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church by John Forsyth, RC Clergyman of that parish. Jane Packman and Thirza Smith were witnesses.

Rodger Hammel was a widower aged 57 years and resided at 164 Gorgie Road, Edinburgh. He was a dyer by trade. His parents were deceased.

Jane Duncan or Hale was 35 years old and a widow, who lived at 160 Gorgie Road, Edinburgh. Her parents were deceased.

The marriage was registered at Edinburgh on 14 March 1902. 2
