"1808 Natal and Baptismal Register
(Born) Aug 1st (Bapt) Aug 14th
At Paisley this fourteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eight I, the undersigned, baptised Thomas, Lawful son of Patric Quigly, Labourer, and of Mary Loggan. The child was born the first instant. The sponsors were Patric Thornton and Nelly Thornton.
(signed) William Rattray Mis. Apos."

Note: In the 1841 census for Neilston Village, Renfrewshire, a Patrick and Helen Thornton were recorded living with possibly a daughter Mary. All were Irish born. Patrick was 75 years old and by occupation was a cowfeeder. Helen was 45 years old and Mary 30 years old.

The 1841 census for Springburn village, Lanarkshire, to the north of Glasgow, recorded Thomas and Martha Quigly and their two children Peter and Martha living in Wright Street in the parish of Wellpark. Thomas was in the 30-34 years age group and was a cotton spinner by occupation. The census recorded that he had been born outside of Lanarkshire.

Thomas was recorded by the 1851 census living in the Blackfriars or College district of Glasgow at 48 Burnside Street. He was head of a household that comprised his wife Martha, his son Peter and daughter Sarah, and his sister Sarah. There were also two visitors there: Agnes Milne, unmarried and aged 22 years, a power loom weaver, born in Glasgow, and Margaret Milne, also born in Glasgow and unmarried, and aged 18 years and working as a carder in a mill. Thomas was recorded as aged 41 years, a cotton spinner, and had been born in Paisley.

In 1861 the census of that year recorded Thomas Quigley, his wife, his daughter Sarah, and a lodger called Jane Nelay, still living at 48 Burnside Street. Jane was aged 42 years, born Glasgow, unmarried, a yarn winder. Thomas was a cotton spinner. His age was recorded as 50 years and his birthplace as Paisley, Renfrewshire.

The census for 1871 found Thomas Quigley an 'ordinary inmate' in the City Parish Poorhouse in Glasgow at 322 Parliamentary Road. His wife Martha also lodged there though they were separated within the institution. Thomas Quigley was recorded as married and aged 63 years old. His birthplace was Paisley, Renfrewshire. His occupation, unusually, was recorded as labourer.

At the time of his death in 1875, his death certificate recorded that Thomas was a pauper, and formerly had been a cotton spinner. He was aged 67 years. The certificate tells us he was married to Martha Docherty. No parental information for him was given.

Thomas was recorded as a 'cotton spinner (operative)' in the death certificate of his widow Martha in 1888. 4 6 7 8 9 10
