The 1851 census recorded Martha living at 48 Burnside Street in Blackfriars, Glasgow, with her husband, son, daughter, and two visitors She was recorded as 40 years of age, and her birthplace was Ireland.

The census of 1861 recorded Martha Quigley as the wife of Thomas Quigley. She was aged 49 years and born in Dumfries. (This is consistent with the 1841 census entry for Martha, but is at odds with the 1851 entry.) Martha had one child at home and one lodger.

The census for 1871 found Martha Docherty an 'ordinary inmate' in the City Parish Poorhouse in Glasgow. Her husband, Thomas, also lodged there though they were separated within the institution. Despite this, Martha was recorded in the census of 1871 as a widow. She was also recorded as aged 58 years old. Her birthplace was Ireland. Her occupation was recorded as 'washer'.

In her death certificate of 1888, Martha was recorded as the widow of Thomas Quigley, cotton spinner (operative). Her age was recorded as 73 years. Both of her parents were deceased. 2 3 9 10
