  General Notes:

Jeanie was originally registered as 'Jane Mount' when she was born in 1877. Her father, Charles, gave notice of her birth before William Sim, registrar, on 17 May 1877 in Dalserf Parish, Lanarkshire.

Jane Mount was recorded, in a family entry, by the 1881 census for Dalserf. She was the second youngest of five children and aged 4 years. Her birthplace was noted as Dalserf, and the census recorded her dwelling place as Red Row.


Jane married Archibald McLACHLAN, son of John McLACHLAN and Elizabeth MATTHEWS, on 22 June 1900 in Blantyre Works, Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Archibald McLACHLAN was born on 29 November 1865 in Dalry Parish, Ayrshire, Scotland 3 and died between 1900 and 1917.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. The minister wad John Burleigh. The witnesses were John McLachlan and Elizabeth Mount who made her X mark.

Archibald Mclachlan was a widower aged 30 years. He resided at Middle Row, Blantyre Works, and worked as a coal miner. His father was deceased.

Jeane [sic] Mount was a bleachfield worker whose age was recorded as 21 years. She was unmarried and her address was 8 Espedair Street, Paisley.

The marriage was registered on 25 June 1900 at Blantyre, Hugh MacMillan being the signing registrar.

Jane next married Peter QUIGLEY, son of Patrick QUIGLY (DNA Linked) and Margaret GEORGE (DNA Linked), on 7 December 1917 in RC Chapel, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Peter QUIGLEY was born 10 April 1866 at 11.20 pm in Gauchalland Row, Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland 4 5 6 7, baptised on 2 June 1866 in St Joseph's RC Parish, Kilmarnock, Scotland 8 and died 15 December 1936 at 11.00 am in St Joseph's House, Garngadhill, Glasgow, Scotland 9.). The cause of his death was bronchitis.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns, according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The officiating priest was Father Duncan Brown, the Roman Catholic clergyman in Hamilton. The witnesses were Robert Feely, a relative of Peter's first wife Mary, and Bridget Kinsella.

Peter Quigley had already been married and was a widower. He was a coal miner aged 51 years. His usual residence was at 17 Beckford Street, Hamilton. Both of his parents were deceased at this time.

The bride, Jeanie Mount, also known as Jeanie Mclaughlin, had also been married before, and was a widow. She was recorded as aged 38 years and worked as a charwoman. She resided at 13 Shawburn Street, Hamilton. Both of her parents were deceased

Peter signed the register and Jeanie made her X mark.

The marriage was registered on 11 December 1917 in Hamilton.

Note: The bride's name under which the marriage is indexed in GRO Scotland is "Joanie", though the text does read "Jeanie Mount or McLaughlin".
