ADAMS, Sarah 1
General Notes: In 1871 the census for Crichton, Midlothian, recorded John Adams as head of a household living at Tynebank, Turnie Dykes, with his wife and family. As well as his wife, there were six others living in the household: five were his children and the sixth was a 'relative' named Mary Adams. That relative 'Mary' was most probably Sarah Adams, whose mother Mary, sister of John Adams, had died in 1864. In the census the child, now Mary, was recorded as 8 years old and born in Crichton, Midlothian, both facts fitting Sarah's credentials exactly. She was likely renamed as 'Mary' since there already was a daughter, Sarah, in John's family. |
