Mary married Joseph ADAMS, son of Joseph ADAMS and Mary ADAMS, on 8 November 1859 in Borthwick Manse, Borthwick, Midlothian, Scotland.1 (Joseph ADAMS was born about 1833 in probably County Armagh, Ireland and died on 24 February 1875 in 176 Crookston Street, Kinning Park, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4.). The cause of his death was phtisis pulmonalis.

The marriage was solemnised after banns at Borthwick Manse according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. The Minister at Borthwick, James Reid, conducted the ceremony. The witnesses were Jane Reid and John McClure.

Joseph Adams, the bridegroom, made his X mark. He was aged 28 years and resident at Tynehead. He was a single man and worked as a labourer. He was 'Cousin German' to the bride. Both of his parents were living.

Mary Adams was recorded as 30 years of age and was also unmarried. She too was resident at Tynehead. No occupation was noted for her.

The marriage was registered on 22 November 1859 at Borthwick, Alexander MacDougall being the registrar. 1
