  General Notes:

John was 3 years old when he was recorded in the 1841 census. He was the youngest of the small family living in Elba Street, Wallacetown.

In 1878 John's father, Michael, applied for parish relief. Some information about John was included in the application. He was said to be aged 42 years, to have been born in Ayr and to be married with eight children (this a bit unclear). He was a slater and bricklayer by trade but was idle at that time. He lived at 81 East Nelson Street.

The 1881 census for Barony parish recorded John Tweedlie and his large family of his wife and ten children living at 763 Duke Street Glasgow. John was recorded as 41 years of age and having been born in Ayr. He was a bricklayer by occupation.

John's wife applied for parish relief in April 1886. In her statement she gave John's age as 46 years. She said he had been born in Elba Street, Ayr, was a slater and, like her, a Catholic. She said he had left her a week before in search of work and had not yet returned. They were living at 16 Landressy Street then. (see wife's Notes)

When John died in 1919, his death certificate records that he was aged 84 years. He had been a bricklayer. He was survived by his wife 'Rose' Kane. 2 3 5 6

  Medical Notes:

Joseph Sanderson LRCPS(E) certified the cause of death.

John's son, Andrew, of 38 Howard Street Bridgeton, notified the registrar Andrew Maclean at Glasgow on 24 November 1919.

John married Rose Ann KANE, daughter of Thomas KANE and Mary GRAHAM, in 1860 in St Mary's RC Church, Abercrombie Street, Glasgow, Scotland.1 (Rose Ann KANE was born about 1840 in Green Street, Calton, Glasgow, Scotland,5 died on 21 September 1922 in Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia, USA 7 and was buried in Mount Rose Cemetery, Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia, USA.). The cause of her death was apoplexy.

  Marriage Notes:

John and Ann were married by Fr Sheedy at St Mary's in Abercromby Street, according to the statement given in Ann's application for parish relief. Ann would have been about 20 years of age and John the same.

No marriage lines were shown in evidence of this statement. 1
