   Cause of her death was bronchitis over 6 weeks.1

   Other names for Margaret were McGARVEY, Serah,2 McGARVIE, Margaret 1 and QUIGLEY, Margaret.1

  General Notes:

The 1871 census for Springburn, Glasgow recorded Margaret Quigley as head of the household living at 12 Wright Street. Only two rooms in the dwelling were windowed. Margaret was aged 55 years and had been born in Ireland. She was a widow and worked as a washerwoman. With her were recorded her son, Patrick, and her four daughters, one of whom, Annie, was married.

The 1881 census for Glasgow recorded Margaret Quigley as head of the household living at 123 Stobcross Street. The household consisted of herself, her daughter, Mary, a 4 month old nursling born in Glasgow called Isabella Crawford, and a lodger, Archibald Cameron, a single man aged 45 years, born in Oban, and working as a hammerman. Margaret's age was recorded as 57 years, and she was a widow who had been born in Ireland.

When Margaret McGarvie died in 1888 she was recorded as 57 years of age. Her death certificate recorded her as the widow of John Quigley, a Locomotive Engine Driver. Both of her parents were deceased. 1

The evidence we have here of Margaret's age is inconsistent. The age noted is mainly based on the year of birth of her last child.

  Medical Notes:

Patrick A. Smith MB CM certified the cause of death.

The informant of Margaret's death was Mary Graham, her daughter. She gave notice before the registrar in the district of Anderston, Glasgow on 18 June 1888.
