The 1871 census for Glasgow recorded Patrick Quigley living with his widowed mother and his sisters at 12 Wright Street in Springburn. He was 25 years old and had been born in Ireland. He worked as a driller and was single.

Patrick Quigley, Annie Quigley's father, was the informant of her birth at Anderston, Glasgow on 12 February 1878. He recorded himself as a journeyman sewing machine maker.

Patrick Quigley was the informant of his son, John's birth before the registrar at Anderston, Glasgow on 27 November 1879. His occupation was noted as journeyman sewing machine maker.

The 1881 census for Glasgow recorded Patrick Quigley living at 6 Braid Street as the head of a household of six people: himself, his wife, son and daughter, and his mother in law and sister in law. Only two fo the rooms in the dwelling place were windowed. Patrick was married, aged 36 years, and had been born in Ireland. He worked as a sewing machine mechanic.

Sarah Bonar Quigley's birth was registered by her father, Patrick, a journeyman sewing machine maker, at Anderston, Glasgow on 10 September 1883.

The census of 1891 recorded Patrick Quigley and his family living at 33 Kelvin Street, Glasgow, a home with two rooms that had windows. Patrick was an engine fitter who was 46 years of age and had been born in Ireland.

When Patrick Quigley died in 1904 his recorded age at death was 57 years. He was recorded as having been a sewing machine mechanic, married to Annie Nelis. His usual address was 77 Cranston Street, Glasgow. Both of his parents were deceased.

Patrick Quigley's wife, Annie, died in 1917. In her death certificate she was recorded as the 'widow of Patrick Quigley sewing machine mechanic'. 2 3 4

The cause of Patrick's death was certified by William Harvey MB ChB.

Annie Quigley, widow of the deceased, gave notice of his death before the registrar at the district of Kelvin, Glasgow, on 21 June 1904. 4


Patrick married Annie NELIS on 9 June 1873 in St Mungo's RC Chapel, Glasgow, Scotland.1 (Annie NELIS was born about 1846 in Londonderry, Ireland 3 and died 28 October 1917 at 11.15 am in 169 Kent Road, Anderston, Glasgow, Scotland 4 5.). The cause of her death was chronic bronchitis and cardiac asthenia over 3 months.4


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was solemnised according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Father Anthony Carroll. The witnesses were Bernard McLaughlin and Hannah McCairnie.

Patrick Quigley was a sewing machine maker (journeyman) aged 29 years. He was unmarried and lived at 255 Stirling Road Glasgow. His father was deceased.

Annie Nelis was a shirt cutter aged 27 years, living at 6 Stanhope Street, Glasgow. She was unmarried. Her father was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 12 June 1873, Gavin Buchanan being the signing registrar.
