  General Notes:

The 1841 census for Kilmarnock recorded for certain two of Catharine's children with some other Quigley children - their older siblings probably - living in the home of John and Catrean McCann in Back Street. Two more children, surnamed McCann, and younger than the Quigley children, were also present.

Coupled with the absence of Catharine's husband Samuel Quigly from the 1841 census, it suggests that Catharine had remarried or moved in with John McCann either on the death of her husband or in his absence. The youngest Quigley child - Agness - was recorded as 9 years of age and the older of the two McCann children - Saley - was recorded as 4 years.

It seems reasonable to infer that on Samuel Quigly's death or disappearance, at some time between 1832 and 1837, a new relationship was established between John McCann and Catharine Docharty from which two McCann children were born in 1837 and after.

In the 1841 census Catharine's was recorded as Catrean McCann and her age as in the 30-34 years range. She, like all of the children, had been born in Ayrshire. Her age is noted as exactly the same as John McCann's, but since Catharine's first marriage took place in 1820, that is 21 years earlier, she may be surmised to have been at least 35 years old or over. 3

Catharine married Samuel QUIGLY, son of QUIGLY and Unknown, on 15 July 1820 in Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 (Samuel QUIGLY was born about 1795 and died between 1831 and 1841.)

  Marriage Notes:

Fr William Caven of St Mirin's Paisley married Samuel and Catherine at Ayr on 15 July 1820.
(At that time Ayr Roman Catholics were served by the clergy of St Mirin's parish Paisley.)

The witnesses were William Cartan and James Boyle.

The certificate of the proclamation of banns was from the session clerk at Kilmarnock, (oddly at the later date of Aug 4 1820.) 7

Catharine next married John McCANN. (John McCANN was born about 1807 in Ireland 8.)
