   Cause of his death was arterio sclerosis, hypostatic pneumonia and chronic myocarditis.

  General Notes:

When Robert Smith was born in 1870, his father Robert, a coal miner, was the informant of his birth before the registrar at Baillieston on 2 April 1870.

1901 Census:
Robert Smith, his wife Mary A. Smith and their children Robert, James and Mary A. were living together at High Crosshill, South Baillieston, in the parish of Old Monkland. Robert was a coal miner. He was 31 years old and his wife 30. Robert was 5 years of age, James 3 years and Mary A. 1 year. Robert and the three children were born in Baillieston, and Mary A. was born in Irvine Ayrshire.

Robert Smith was widowed in 1927. He was present where his wife's death occurred and gave notice before the registrar at Baillieston on 1 August 1927. His occupation was noted as labourer.

Robert was recorded as a general labourer in his son Michael's marriage certificate of 1928.

In the 1942 marriage certificate of his son Cornelius McColl Smith, Robert Smith was recorded as a coal miner by occupation. He was retired by then.

Robert died in February 1946 at the recorded age of 75 years. Father McFarland was the officiating minister at the burial. Robert's death certificate recorded him as a retired coal miner and widower of Mary Ann Donaldson. His usual address was 127 Robertson Terrace, Baillieston. His parents were deceased. 2 4 5 6

Robert's son, Neil Smith, of 127 Robertson Terrace Baillieston gave notice of his death before the registrar at Cleland on 8 February 1946.


Robert married Mary Ann DONALDSON, daughter of James DONALDSON and Mary Ann CARSON, on 26 February 1895 in St Bridget's RC Church, Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Mary Ann DONALDSON was born 1 August 1870 at 2.00 pm in Annick Lodge Colliery, Irvine parish, Ayrshire, Scotland,7 died 30 July 1927 at 10.00 pm in 58 Auchonan Street, Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Scotland 5 and was buried on 2 August 1927 in St Peter's RC Cemetery, Dalbeth, Glasgow, Scotland 5.). The cause of her death was cerebral haemorrhage lasting 1 day.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Peter H. Terken. The witnesses were John Stirling and Hannah Donaldson.

The bridegroom was an unmarried man of 24 years of age who was a coal miner. He lived at Gilmours Land Baillieston.

The bride was unmarried and aged 24 years. She was a domestic servant who lived at 151 Garngadhill Glasgow. Both of her parents were deceased.

The marriage was registered at Baillieston on 27 February 1895. 1
