Mary Ann Donaldson, mother of the child, was the informant of the birth of her daughter, also Mary Ann, before the registrar at Irvine on 22 August 1870. She made her X mark.

In her death certificate of 1927 Mary Ann Smith was recorded as married to Robert Smith Labourer and was 56 years old. Her parents were deceased.

Mary Ann Donaldson was recorded as deceased in 1942 when her son Cornelius married. ^{2 3}
