  General Notes:

"WIilliam Sinclair of Newburgh, commonly known as 'The Waster,' was the eldest son of the said William, Earl of Caithness, by his first marriage with Elizabeth Douglas, daughter of Archibald, fourth Earl of Douglas. He was disinherited by his father, who, on 7 December 1476, resigned his lands of the earldom of Caithness in the hands of the King, from whom he obtained a new grant with remainder to William, the eldest son of his second marriage."

from Scots Peerage (vol 7) 1

William married Christian LESLIE, daughter of George LESLIE Earl of Rothes and Margaret LUNDY, about 29 April 1458.1 (Christian LESLIE was born about 1438 and died After 22 February 1492(1493) 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (William Sinclair) married (dispensation dated 29 April 1458) Christian Leslie, daughter of George, Earl of Rothes, who survived him, and was alive 22 February 1492-93." (page 570)

"With consent of Christian Leslie, his spouse, he sold certain fishing rights of Ithane to Sir James Ogilvy of Deskford, a grant which was confirmed 15 April 1478." (page 570)

from Scots Peerage (vol 7)

Note:

'Christian Leslie', who married William Sinclair, has been place here, tentatively, as the daughter of George Leslie and Margaret Lundin. She may have been born outside of marriage.

Historical Records of the Family of Leslie do not mention this marriage. William, "Earl of Orkney and Caithness, Lord Sinclair," is mentioned only as the father-in-law of Andrew Leslie, Master of Rothes. The history also features a "Lady Christian Leslie, born 1450, married to George Leslie, second Baron of that Ilk" who was the daughter of the Earl of Rothes' second marriage.

It mentions only one daughter of his first marriage, Margaret, who
"married Alexander Cumming of Ernside". 1 2
