Archibald married Margaret STEWART, daughter of John [ruled as Robert III] STEWART King of Scots and Annabella DRUMMOND Queen of Scots, by 1390.¹ (Margaret STEWART was born about 1370, died by September 1456 ^{1 3} and was buried in Lincluden Church, Dumfriesshire, Scotland ³.)

The fourth Earl of Douglas married, during his father's lifetime and some time before 1390, Margaret Stewart, the eldest daughter of John, Earl of Carrick, afterwards King Robert III. She survived her husband, and was styled after his death Duchess of Touraine, as well as Countess of Douglas and Lady of Galloway, although the duchy which gave the title was, not long after the death of Douglas, bestowed by King Charles VII. on Louis of Anjou. The Countess in or about 1448 made an attempt to claim her terce out of the duchy of Touraine, and its rents and revenues. She sent her petition by William, Lord Crichton, Chancellor of King James II., who was her nephew, and her request was accompanied by a similar claim from William, eighth Earl of Douglas. Both claims were refused."
