  General Notes:

'Something else which I think you'll find interesting are two documents in my possession. My Aunt May, whose mother was Alexandrina Haimes, gave me some old family papers which included the following....

"Cerificate of Entry of Birth
Under Section 37 of 17 and 18 Vict. cap. 80.

I hereby certify that the above particulars are extracted by me from the entry No. 3, Dated Fifth January 1858, contained in the Register-Book of Births for the Parish of Dunse in the County of Berwick
Date of Extract 5th January, 1858 ? Holywell Registrar"

"At HADDINGTON, the Sixteenth Day of January 1882

At ? the Sixteenth day of January 1882 the above Parties were Married by Mr. ? Minister" '

from G. Hendry

The 1891 census for Haddington recorded Charles and Margaret Haimes, both in their thirties, living at 19 High Street Haddington.

In the 1901 census Charles, a tailor, was living with his wife Margaret at 9 East Arthur Place, Edinburgh. 1 3 4

Charles married Margaret HANNAY, daughter of Hugh HANNAY and Christina CAIRNCROSS, on 16 January 1882 in Harelaw, East Lothian, Scotland.1 (Margaret HANNAY was born on 1 September 1858 in Gladsmuir parish, East Lothian, Scotland 5.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. Wm. B. Turnbull, minister of Gladsmuir, was the officiating minister. Alexr. Campbell and Mary Hannay were witnesses.

Charles Haimes was a single man of 25 years of age. He was a tailor by trade and lived in Haddington. (Note: We know from other sources that his mother was deceased but the marriage certificate does not show that.)

Margaret Hannay was 24 years old and worked as a domestic servant. She was a single woman who lived at Harelaw.

The marriage was registered at Gladsmuir on 17 January 1882.
