William married Anna ARBUTHNOTT, daughter of Robert ARBUTHNOTT Viscount of Arbuthnott and Katherine FRASER, 7 February 1682(contract).¹ (Anna ARBUTHNOTT was born about 1661.)

"William Forbes was served heir to his father Robert on October 1st , 1686. He married (1) Anne, daughter of Sir Robert Arbuthnot, and (2) Mary, daughter of Alexander Forbes of Boyndlie. He sold Newton to Alexander Davidson and Ludquharn to Alexander Forbes of Torhendry. :Matthew Lumsden states that Alexander Forbes of Torbendry bought the estate of Ludquham direct from the bankrupt Keith, Laird of Ludquharn, but apparently Forbes of Newton had previously advanced money upon it."

William next married Mary FORBES, daughter of Alexander FORBES 3rd of Boyndlie, Tutor of Pitsligo, Covenanter and Mary ELPHINSTONE.² (Mary FORBES was born about 1663.)

  Marriage Notes:

The third Laird of Boyndlie, named like the second, Alexander, was better known as th e Tutor o[ Boyncllie or the Tutor of Pitsligo .... The Tutor married (1) Margaret Forbes of Rires, and (2) Mary Elphinstone and had three sons: Alexander, Henry and John and a daughter married to William Forbes of Ludquharn."
