"Alexander (Forbes), the 3rd Laird of Torhendry, purchased about 1696 the lands of Ludquharn, in Longside, previously the property of the old family of Keith, from whom they had been purchased before 1686 by one Robert Forbes, whose son William succeeded and sold them. Alexander Forbes becoming bankrupt, the lands of Ludquharn passed in 1718 into the hands of Sir John Guthrie of King Edward-a cadet of the family of Guthrie of Guthrie, in Angus."

"William Forbes was served heir to his father Robert on October 1st , 1686. He married (1) Anne, daughter of Sir Robert Arbuthnot, and (2) Mary, daughter of Alexander Forbes of Boyndlie. He sold Newton to Alexander Davidson and Ludquharn to Alexander Forbes of Torhendry. :Matthew Lumsden states that Alexander Forbes of Torbendry bought the estate of Ludquham direct from the bankrupt Keith, Laird of Ludquharn, but apparently Forbes of Newton had previously advanced money upon it."

William next married Mary FORBES, daughter of Alexander FORBES 3rd of Boyndlie, Tutor of Pitsligo, Covenanter and Mary ELPHINSTONE.2 (Mary FORBES was born about 1663.)

The third Laird of Boyndlie, named like the second, Alexander, was better known as th e Tutor o[ Boyncllie or the Tutor of Pitsligo .... The Tutor married (1) Margaret Forbes of Rires, and (2) Mary Elphinstone and had three sons: Alexander, Henry and John and a daughter married to William Forbes of Ludquharn."
