James married Marjory HAY, daughter of William HAY 4th Earl of Erroll and Christian LYON, by 13 July 1527(charter).¹ (Marjory HAY was born about 1510.)

Note:

Though Scots Peerage, volume 3, Hay, Earl of Erroll, does not list Marjory as a daughter of the fourth Earl of Erroll or any other Earl of that line, there is a belief that she was his daughter, as below. The source quoted has not been seen:

"Marjory Hay, of 'Errol,' was the daughter of William Hay, 4th Earl of Errol, Lord High Constable of Scotland, and his wife Christian Lyon (daughter of John Lyon, 3rd Lord Glamis and his wife Elizabeth Scrymgeour). James next married Elizabeth GRAY, daughter of Gilbert GRAY of Schivas and Unnamed WIFE, about 9 July 1540.¹ (Elizabeth GRAY was born about 1525.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (James Abercromby) married, first, Marjory Hay ; and secondly, about 9 July 1540, when previous to their marriage he granted her a charter of the lands of Petmaquhy and others in the regality of the Garioch, Elizabeth, daughter of Gilbert Gray of Schives. By his first wife he had issue .... "
