William married Christian HAY, daughter of Sir John HAY of Snaid, 2nd Lord Yester and Unknown.1 (Christian HAY was born about 1510.)


  Marriage Notes:

"The lands of Traquair were apprised by Queen Margaret in 1528, apparently for a loan of £2150, and were granted to Lord Avondale's brother, James Stewart, on 14 July 1529 ; they seem to have been redeemed soon afterwards, as they were granted anew to William Stewart and his wife in liferent, and their son Robert in fee on 29 March 1538. It is stated that William was served heir of line to his aunt Helen Rutherford, and got the lands of Rutherford and Wells confirmed to him. He married Christian Hay, second daughter of John, second Lord Yester, and by her had issue..."
