  General Notes:

The 1860 US Federal Census for Washington City, District of Columbia (DC), recorded, as 'Free Inhabitants', Thomas Sandeland, his wife Euphimia E. Sandeland, and their two daughters Isabella and Mary Sandeland, living at number 175, 7th Ward Washington City. Euphimia was noted as having been born in Scotland, and being 31 years of age. No occupation was recorded.

Ephemie Sunderland [sic] was recorded by the 1870 US Census living with her husband and three children in Adams Township, Delaware County. Aged 45 years she was keeping home for her family. Like her husband she had been born in Scotland GB, and her parents were foreign born. Her children were aged 15, 12 and 4 years.

In 1876 Euphemia became a widow.

The 1880 census for Adams Township, Iowa, recorded herself, her daughter, Isabella, and her son, Thomas, living there. She is listed as Euphumia Sandilands, a widow, aged 46 years, whose occupation is keeping house. Her birthplace, and that of her parents, is noted as Scotland. 2 4 5


Euphemia married Thomas SANDILANDS Stone Cutter and Farmer, son of Alexander SANDILANDS Blacksmith and Isabel SCOTT, on 23 March 1852 in Edinburgh parish, Edinburgh, Scotland.1 (Thomas SANDILANDS Stone Cutter and Farmer was born on 26 June 1823 in Midlothian, Scotland,3 6 died on 24 October 1876 in Delaware County, Iowa, USA 3 and was buried in Oakland Cemetery Manchester Delaware County Iowa, USA.)
