PIRIE, George Professor of Mathematics
Cause of his death was (Supposed) heart disease.1 General Notes: "1866-1888 George Pirie, M.A.(Aberdeen), M.A., LL.D. h.c.(St Andrews). Mathematical Lecturer, Bursar, Tutor, Dean, and Praelector. Proctor. Professor of Mathematics at Aberdeen University. d.1904." Medical Notes: George's death was not certificated; he had no immediate medical attendant. the subsequent Report made to the Procurator Fiscal because of the suddenness of the death added little. George's age was recorded as 62 years. The cause of death was slightly elaborated: "Natural causes probably failure of the heart's action". George married Anne Elizabeth REID, daughter of Reverend Mr William REID Minister of Auchindoir and Kearn and Elizabeth Mary SCOTT, on 30 September 1879 in Auchindoir and Kearn parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
