George Pirie became a Professor of Mathematics at Aberdeen University in 1878.

When his daughter, Margaret Forbes Pirie, was born, her father, George Pirie, a Professor of Mathematics, who had been present where the birth occurred, gave notice of her birth before the registrar, James Valentine, at Aberdeen on 27 June 1884. The child's parents' date and place of marriage were also noted.

George Pirie, Margaret's son, of 33 College Bounds, Aberdeen, was the informant of her death. He gave notice before the registrar at Aberdeen, James Meston, on 19 April 1900.

George Pirie died in 1904. In his death certificate he was recorded as "George Pirie LLD Professor of Mathematics in the University of Aberdeen (married to Ann Elizabeth Reid". His usual residence was noted as 33 College Bounds Aberdeen. Both of his parents were deceased. George's recorded age at death was 61 years. 1 2

  Medical Notes:

George's death was not certificated; he had no immediate medical attendant. the subsequent Report made to the Procurator Fiscal because of the suddenness of the death added little. George's age was recorded as 62 years. The cause of death was slightly elaborated: "Natural causes probably failure of the heart's action".

Robert Reid, George Pirie's brother in law, of 37 Albyn Place, Aberdeen, was the informant of his death. He gave notice before the registrar, John M. McGregor, at Braemar on 22 August 1904. 1 3


George married Anne Elizabeth REID, daughter of Reverend Mr William REID Minister of Auchindoir and Kearn and Elizabeth Mary SCOTT, on 30 September 1879 in Auchindoir and Kearn parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. (Anne Elizabeth REID was born on 24 March 1848 4 and was baptised on 4 May 1848 in Auchindoir and Kearn parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 4.)
