GORDON, George 4th of Coclarachie 1
User ID: L554. George married Grissell SETON, daughter of Alexander SETON 2nd of Pitmedden and Beatrice OGILVY, in May 1629.1 (Grissell SETON was born about 1612 and died in 1644 1.) Marriage Notes: "This laird (George Gordon 4th of Coclarachie) succeeded his grandfather in 1633, though he and his first wife had received, on the occasion of their marriage in 1629, a charter on Coclarachie and also on Overblairton and Pettens in the parish of Belhelvie, Aberdeenshire (Appendix VI.). On October 6, 1643, he sold the lands in Belhelvie to George Davidson, burgess of Aberdeen (Scottish Notes and Queries, ii., 102) ; but he also acquired lands in the parish of Marnoch, Banffshire, including the barony of Auchintoul. [...] George next married Elizabeth FRASER, daughter of Alexander FRASER 9th of Philorth and Margaret ABERNETHY 10th Lady Saltoun of Abernethy, in December 1645.1 2 (Elizabeth FRASER was born about 1620.) Marriage Notes: "His (Major-General Alexander Gordon's) grandfather, George Gordon of Cocklarachie was twice married: by his first wife, a daughter of Seaton of Pitmedden, he had two sons, Alexander (our Author's father) and James, the predecessor of Gordon of Ardmellie. By his second wife, a daughter of Fraser of Philorth, the predecessor of Lord Salton, he had another son; of whom Gordon of Cocklarachie is descended. He purchased the estate of Achintoul, and gave it to Alexander his eldest son." |
