Alexander married Jean FORBES, daughter of Robert FORBES of Barns, Tutor of Monymusk and Jean FORBES.1 2 (Jean FORBES was born about 1637.)

" ... whereby our said sovereign lord, with advice and consent of the lords commissioners of his majesty's treasury and exchequer, gave, granted and conveyed to his majesty's beloved Alexander Forbes, elder of Ballogie, son to John Forbes of Pitnacalder and Jean Forbes, his spouse ..... whereby also his majesty, for the causes therein mentioned, did of new give and convey to the said Alexander Forbes, elder, his said spouse and son and their foresaids, the whole lands, barony and others particularly above-written, and did unite of new the same in a full and free barony, called the barony of Ballogie ..."

"Alexander Forbes, second son of the 2nd Laird of Pitnacaddel, bought Ballogie, parish of Midmar, about 1650. He married Jean, daughter of Robert Forbes, Tutor of Monymusk, and had three sons and five daughters"
