   Cause of her death was acute infective broncho pneumonia and arteriosclerotic parkinsonism.

   Another name for Rebecca was BELL, Rebecca.2

  General Notes:

Rebecca's father, William Nisbet, who had been present where the child's birth took place on 29 August 1880, gave notice of her birth before the registrar at Musselburgh on 16 September 1880. His occupation was noted as journeyman plumber.

Rebecca Nisbet was aged 7 months when recorded by the 1881 census living with her parents at 11 Davie Street, Edinburgh. She had been born in Inveresk.

The census of 1891 recorded Rebecca Nisbet living with her father and stepmother Margaret, whom her father had married subsequent to the death of her mother. Her sister Isabella was not included in the family entry. Rebecca lived in the family household at 1 Buccleuch Street Edinburgh with these two parents and two half siblings, Alexander Nisbet aged 2 years and Nelly Nisbet aged 9 months. Rebecca was recorded as 10 years of age and had been born in Inveresk Midlothian. She was a scholar.

Rebecca Nisbet was recorded by the 1901 census working as a general servant at 18 St Ronan's Terrace in the Morningside district of Edinburgh. She was recorded as 20 years of age and had been born in Eskbank Midlothian. The family she worked for was headed by William Paterson, aged 43 years, a solicitor born in Stranraer. His wife Marion Paterson, was 42 years of age and had been born in Haddington. They had two young children: Norman K. Paterson, aged 8 years, a scholar born in Edinburgh, and Jean H. Paterson, aged 7 years.

When Rebecca died in 1964 her death certificate recorded her as 'Rebecca Bell aged 83 widow of John Bell motor lorry driver'. Her usual residence was 10 Merchiston Mews Edinburgh. Her parents were deceased. 3

Her son, William Bell, of 9 Meadowfield Drive Edinburgh, was the informant before the registrar Jas. Keenan, at Edinburgh on 8 January 1964.


Rebecca married John BELL, son of William BELL Cab Proprietor and Agnes LAWRIE, on 8 March 1904 in 78 Craiglea Drive, Edinburgh, Scotland.1 (John BELL was born on 29 May 1871 in Edinburgh, Scotland 1 4 and died before 7 January 1964.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the United Free Church of Scotland. The minister was Walter Brown. The witnesses were William Bell and Bella Nisbet.

John Bell of 362 Morningside Road Edinburgh was a cabman by occupation. He was 32 years of age and single. His mother was deceased.

Rebecca Nisbet lived at 35 Cluny Gardens Edinburgh. She was 23 years old and unmarried, and worked as a domestic servant. Her mother was deceased.

The marriage was registered on 10 march 1904 in edinburgh, John J. Wellford, the registrar. 1
