SINCLAIR, Beatrice ¹

Beatrice married Wlliam BORTHWICK 3rd of that Ilk, then Lord Borthwick, son of Sir William BORTHWICK 2nd of of that Ilk, Captain of Edinburgh Castle and Unknown, 1 May 1411(papal dispensation).¹ (Wlliam BORTHWICK 3rd of that Ilk, then Lord Borthwick was born about 1388 and died after 1457(1458) ².)

"p. 95, 1. 20, after 'him' add note,

'On 1 May 1411 a dispensation was issued for the marriage of William Borthwick and Beatrice Sinclair, but there is no clue as to which William Borthwick is meant (Reg. Aven., 337, f. 170). He had a daughter, Janet Borthwick, for whose marriage to Adam Hepburn, lord of Hailes, a Papal dispensation was granted on 2 November 1411 (Reg. Aven., 339, f. 549)."

Only the lines underlined by this researcher would seem to apply to this marriage on the grounds of chronology. The Janet Borthwick mentioned would have been a sister of this William Borthwick. ¹
