  • Born: About 1415
  • Marriage (1): MAXWELL, John 2nd of Calderwood, Sir 1 2

   User ID: V890.

Margaret married Sir John MAXWELL 2nd of Calderwood, son of Sir Robert MAXWELL of Calderwood and Unknown.1 2 (Sir John MAXWELL 2nd of Calderwood was born about 1405 and died in 1476 2.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Margaret (Borthwick), married to Sir John Maxwell of Calderwood, before 4 December 1450."

from Scots Peerage (vol 2)

Note:

This dating of the marriage is not particularly helpful. It must have been quite a time before December 1450, since the couple's grandson, Thomas, Earl of Arran, married a princess of Scots before 26 April 1467.

"Sir John Maxwell married, first, Margaret, daughter of William second (see Note below) Lord Borthwick, by whom he had one son and two daughters. She predeceased Sir John."

from Memoirs of the Maxwells of Pollok

Note:

As with the earlier extract, the dating does not appear to permit Margaret, if married to this John Maxwell, being the daughter of the 2nd Lord Borthwick.
