General Notes: "Sir William Borthwick, who in 1378 was in possession of the lands of Catcune, Midlothian, and who appears to have been variously described as of Catcune, of Ligertwood (see Note below), and of Borthwick. He was employed as an ambassador or commissioner in the reigns of Robert III. and James I., and went to England on many diplomatic missions, from 1398 to 1413." William married. |
