  General Notes:

"In 1554, Alexander Chalmers, grandson, or nephew (nepos), and heir-apparent of Andrew Chalmers of Strichen appears. His wife was Elizabeth Johnstone, and Andrew Chalmers and Christina Fraser were still living at that time.

In 1558, Alexander Chalmers, "feodatarius terrarum de Strathechin," sold that estate to his cousin, Thomas Fraser, son of Alexander Fraser of Philorth, in two portions, of which he gave him two charters, one on the 11th of May 1558, the other on the 6th of December in the same year, both of which were confirmed by Queen Mary."

William married First WIFE. (First WIFE was born about 1514.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Margaret (Gordon), married as his second wife, Alexander Chalmers of Strichen. Her brother, William (V. of Gight), murdered her husband's step-father (see Note below), Thomas Fraser of Strichen, on Christmas Eve, 1576, at Old Deer. Her son, John Chalmers, took part in the fight at Donibristle, 1592. Margaret Gordon, according to the Balbithan MS., married secondly 'the laird of Philorth's brother'." (page 37)

"1576. Dec. 23. The murder of Thomas Fraser. On this date William Gordon killed Thomas Fraser of Strichen (step-father-in-law of Gordon's sister, Margaret, who had married Alexander Chalmers)." (page 39)

from Gight

Note:

The William Chalmers to whom Isobel Forbes was married, being the father of Alexander Chalmers of Strichen, must have had a first wife before Isobel, that is the mother of Alexander Chalmers.

The Scots Peerage vol. 5 calls the William who married Isobel Forbes 'William Chalmer of Strichen', but it is also clear that Alexander inherited, so William's death must have occurred before his father's death. 1 3

William next married Isobel FORBES, daughter of John FORBES of Balfluig and Janet FORBES.1 (Isobel FORBES was born about 1542 and died on 30 November 1611 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (Thomas Fraser of Knockie) married Isobel or Elizabeth Forbes, a daughter of John Forbes of Corsindae, and widow successively of William Chalmer of Strichen, and secondly, of Thomas Fraser, son of Alexander, seventh Laird of Philorth ..."
