Alexander married Elizabeth JOHNSTON, daughter of James JOHNSTON of that Ilk and Clara BARCLAY, about 1554.1 (Elizabeth JOHNSTON was born about 1530.)


  Marriage Notes:

"In 1554, Alexander Chalmers, grandson, or nephew (nepos), and heir-apparent of Andrew Chalmers of Strichen appears. His wife was Elizabeth Johnstone, and Andrew Chalmers and Christina Fraser were still living at that time.

In 1558, Alexander Chalmers, "feodatarius terrarum de Strathechin," sold that estate to his cousin, Thomas Fraser, son of Alexander Fraser of Philorth, in two portions, of which he gave him two charters, one on the 11th of May 1558, the other on the 6th of December in the same year, both of which were confirmed by Queen Mary."

Alexander next married Margaret GORDON, daughter of John GORDON of Ardmachar, 4th of Gight and Marjory GORDON.2 (Margaret GORDON was born about 1539.)

"Margaret (Gordon), married as his second wife, Alexander Chalmers of Strichen. Her brother, William (V. of Gight), murdered her husband's step-father, Thomas Fraser of Strichen, on Christmas Eve, 1576, at Old Deer. Her son, John Chalmers, took part in the fight at Donibristle, 1592. Margaret Gordon, according to the Balbithan MS., married secondly 'the laird of Philorth's brother'."
