Margaret McGeorge was the second youngest of five children living at 1 Cameron's Court in the Anderston area of Glasgow as recorded by the 1851 census. She was recorded as aged 10 years, and born in Kilmarnock. She was a scholar.

The 1861 census for Anderston, Glasgow recorded Margaret McGeorge living with her parents, brother, and three boarders at Cameron Court 1-10. She was an unmarried woman of 22 years of age and was a power loom weaver. Her birthplace was recorded as Kilmarnock.

In 1890 Margaret Shearer was the informant of her mother's death at Glasgow and made her X mark before the registrar, Jas. Alex. Ferguson. her residence was noted as 91 Maitland Street. ^{1 3 5}

Margaret married John SHEARER on 11 July 1862 in Blythswood, Glasgow, Scotland.^{1 2} (John SHEARER was born about 1835 ² and died after 5 January 1875 ⁶.)
